⚠️ Is Your Smart TV Really “OFF”? 👀📺

You switch off your TV, walk away, and assume it’s no longer doing anything.

You switch off your TV, walk away, and assume it’s no longer doing anything.

But what if it’s still checking what devices are connected to your home network? 😳

A recent investigation by Gamers Nexus, together with Level1Techs and security researchers, raised privacy concerns about certain LG OLED TVs.

🔍 What did researchers observe?

They found that some TVs appeared to:

  • 📡 Look for other devices connected to the same home network, such as smartphones and smartwatches.
  • 🎙️ Capture microphone audio even while the TV was in standby mode.
  • 🌐 Send collected information online when the TV reconnects to the internet.

The important point is this:

👉 Your Smart TV isn't just a screen anymore.

It's essentially a computer connected to your home network.
And just like your phone or laptop, it can potentially collect information, communicate over the internet, and interact with other devices around you.

🛡️ What can you do?

You don't need to panic. But it's worth being aware of what your smart devices are doing.

✅ Check your TV's privacy settings
✅ Review microphone and voice-assistant permissions
✅ Keep the TV's software updated
✅ Consider disabling features you don't use
✅ Don't assume “standby” means “completely disconnected”

💡 The bigger lesson:

  • We often worry about our phones listening to us, but we're surrounded by smart devices — TVs, speakers, watches, cameras, cars and even appliances.
  • Convenience comes with a privacy cost.

So the next time you say, “Hey, it's just a TV…” — remember:

It might be a lot smarter than you think. 👀
